Caroline County Virginia

Caroline County VA.
I dedicated this page to my home county. Caroline County, VA is located in the State of Virginia, half way between Richmond, VA and Washington DC. This beautiful county is rich in history. The county was formed in 1728 from the British Colony. Caroline County was the birthplace of horse racing in North America. William Clark from the famous Lewis and Clark Expedition was born in this county. There were several battles in the Civil War fought in Caroline County. The Battle of Milford Station and The Battle of North Anna. John Wilkes Booth ran to Caroline County and hid in a barn near the incorporated Town of Port Royal following the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. U.S. troops tracked down and fatally shot Booth on the Garrett Farm.
Caroline County has two towns of incorporation, The Town of Bowling Green and the Town of Port Royal.  Each town is special with rich historical values. The main zip code areas in this county are Bowling Green, Ruther Glen, Milford, Hanover and Woodford. Caroline is very desirable to home owners that commute to Richmond and Northern Virginia. The cost of living is cheaper and you can still find that piece of country, which is a pleasant escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Homes, land and taxes are cheaper than bordering counties of Spotsylvania, Stafford, King George and Hanover. The very scenic Rappahannock River snakes across the northern border of Caroline.  The North Anna and Pumukey Rivers border the south and the Mattaponi through the center. All these waterways lead to the Chesapeake Bay and are rich with wildlife and fisheries.
Popular Home Associations in Caroline County are Lake Caroline, Lake Land ‘Or, Ladysmith Village and Portobago Bay. These incorporated associations are each special in its own way. I retired from the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office and patrolled these areas many times. These and many others are great places to live and grow.
